The United Kingdom will definitely leave the European Union on February 1, 2020. Among other things, this means also changes for the travel regulations with pets. A topic that has been discussed controversially in the Agility community in the past weeks and months with the approaching Brexit. Especially since this year the European Open is taking place in England. The worst fears that have been raised that would have prevented a trip across the English Channel have turned out to be wrong. At least for the moment.
The British Parliament has called out an 11-month transition period. Nothing will change in the period from February 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. In this so-called transition period, the European pet passport can continue to be used with the same provisions as before Great Britain left the European Union. This means specifically for a dog that he has implanted using a valid microchip that is verifiably registered in the European Pet Passport. Of course, the European pet passport must also be carried. In addition, the dog must be vaccinated against rabies and have valid tapeworm treatment within a period of at least 24 hours up to a maximum of 5 days in advance.
