The FCI Agility World Championship 2021 in Estonia will not take place in the second Corona year either. This was officially announced today, a few days earlier than expected. According to the organizers, the drastic worsening of the epidemic situation in spring 2021 does not allow a fair World Championship. Together with the Estonian Kennel Club, they made this difficult decision in the last few days.
The Covid-19 regulations worldwide and the associated restrictions are too different from each country. Training is currently not possible in many countries, outdoor and as well indoor. Not to mention qualifying tournaments or normal competitions. With the latter two points in particular, there is no possibility of a fair selection for the national team in many places.
The travel restrictions would probably have been also a too big hurdle for a tournament in that dimension in September and might have also brought with it various restrictions such as a World Championship without spectators on site and only a few participating nations. Despite the rather gloomy prospects, everyone within the organization team has done everything to make the tournament possible. In the end, the decision was all the more difficult.
Last year, when Estonia actually wanted to host the 25th Agility World Championship already, they had to bow to Corona a first time. With the cancellation now it is also certain that the anniversary edition will take place in Russia in 2022. When and whether Estonia will get its well-deserved World Championship is currently unclear. The 2022 World Championships in Russia (Moscow), 2023 in Czech Republic (Liberec) and 2024 in Switzerland are according to various sources definitely planned. In the next few days, the organizers will publish further information on the refund of tickets that have already been purchased.
