Nordic Championship

Nordic Championship 2021 in August despite the tense corona situation?

Will the Nordic Championships be held again in 2021 after a year of interruption due to the corona pandemic? The Norwegian organizers of the Nordic Championship, Gjøvik Dog Club, sent out invitations this week to the event from August 20th to 22nd. The venue is the small town of Moelv, around 150 kilometers north of Oslo. The tournament will take place in the indoor soccer arena Limtrehallen on artificial turf. The Nordic Championship should have taken place in Norway already in 2020, but was canceled due to the pandemic. The invitation comes as a surprise and at short notice. Also for the Finnish Agility Commission, which made the invitation public.

However, people in Finland are still rather skeptical about the implementation in the current situation. Norway still has very strict entry restrictions compared to many other European countries. The Nordic Championships are a cross-border competition in Northern Europe with the Scandinavian countries Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark and their national Agility teams. Traditionally, the tournament takes place a few weeks before the Agility World Championship and is considered a small dress rehearsal for the World Championship. The tournament takes place alternately every year in one of the four participating countries. Behind the tournament is the Nordisk Kennel Union with the four already mentioned member countries, as well as Iceland – which do not provide a team.
