While sunshine prevails in large parts of Europe, Luxembourg has been hit by heavy rainfall. Rain has been the order for the last two weeks. This is also having a strong impact on the Luxembourg Open tournament scheduled for this weekend. A new location in the south of Differdange with a campsite right next to the tournament grounds was actually planned for this year. But the rain is now putting a stop to this plan.
This campsite is the main reason why the Luxembourg Open cannot be held at the planned location. The grass pitch has become very soft due to the rain and with all the campers and cars it would quickly turn into a large field of mud. So tournament organiser Dan Feyder and his team from the Club Amateurs du chien de Race Diffedange only had two options. One would have been to cancel the tournament a week before the planned date or to look for a suitable alternative location. Of all things, on the club’s 100th anniversary.
Fortunately, this was found relatively quickly. This year the tournament will take place at the usual location in Niederkorn, next to the Jos Haupert stadium. The same place where all previous events have been held. With the help of the national authorities and the communal authorities, a suitable campsite was also found nearby. Due to the slightly rockier ground, this has withstood the rain of the last few weeks better. The Luxembourg Open will take place as planned from August 9th to August 11th, 2024.
