JOAWC 2022: The wait for the premiere was worth it

The first edition of the Junior Open Agility World Championship (formerly Junior European Open) is already history and the medal sets have been awarded. Instead of in Portugal as originally planned in 2020, the premiere now took place in the Finnish city of Vantaa. This under almost optimal conditions. Only the wind held up stubbornly throughout the three days of competition and ensured that the wall was not used. The blind tunnel would very probably not have been used either – if it hadn’t been canceled in advance anyway. Otherwise, the three main judges Petr Pupik, Anders Virtanen and Reetta Pirttikoski had a free hand in designing the courses.

Brit Max Glover is one of the best performers and one of the lasting names in this Junior Open Agility World Championship. He wins medals in two categories and various individual runs. In addition to him, of course, many other medal winners and those who just missed the medals or were able to enjoy great runs. Medals or not. Denmark’s Fiona Wennberg, who almost certainly missed out on a win, is also a familiar name for many thanks to the 2019 World Championships in Finland and many other tournaments. She narrowly missed out on overall victory at her last Junior Open Agility World Championship after a zone fault on the dogwalk. Only one of many individual stories from last week.
