FCI issues sanctions against the Russian Kynological Federation (RKF) due to the invasion of Ukraine

In a statement published today, the General Committee of the FCI strongly criticized Russia’s actions in the Ukraine conflict and imposed further sanctions. Russia began the military invasion of Ukraine last week – and it’s not shying away from civilian victims either. In immediate response, the FCI Agility Committee withdrew the 2022 World Agility Championships from Russia.

At an extraordinary meeting last Sunday, further sanctions against the Russian Kynological Federation (RKF) were decided, which were announced today. From March 1st, events in which official FCI titles are awarded will no longer be permitted on Russian soil. This includes, among others, all CACIAG competitions, CACIT and CACIB shows. All decisions are made within the association’s statutes and rules. This regulation applies until the FCI announces the cancellation of this exemption. However, a ban on Russian teams participating abroad in international FCI tournaments or the Agility World Championship has not yet been issued. Various associations such as FIFA have started to completely exclude Russia from all competitions.

According to U.N estimates, more than 500,000 people have already fled to neighboring countries. Others are still in the war zone or waiting to cross the border. Among them are many people with their loved pets. Not least because of this, the FCI decided to open a bank account to collect donations for the Ukrainian Kennel Union and breeders, who were badly affected by the war. Regardless of whether they are still in Ukraine or already abroad.

The Agility community has also shown solidarity over the past few days and shared various offers of help for the victims and their four-legged friends on social media. The FCI also closes its communiqué with the words that the community is a strong and united family who stand up together and show solidarity for Ukraine.
