Thursday, 18:30
The new shedule for tonight is available. The Large Team Jumping is placed in parallel on the third and fourth ring. Also a one-time thing. Unbelievable what the organizers organized everything in the short time they had, since yesterday. Due to the expected darkness in the evening, mobile floodlighting has been organized. True to the motto: there is a solution for every problem. Hats off to the organizers from our side. They do really a great job under the circumstances.
If there is no training and nothing else is going on in Papendal, then there is enough time to reflect on whether it makes sense to host the European Open in summer and outdoors. Christl Faltner from Norway asks exactly this question in the Facebook Agility group “Agility Europe”. Even if the text makes you smile, there is a serious topic behind it. We are also following this discussion and will publish some suggestions in an article as well. We’ll see if we start in the future just in Scandinavia.
Due to the rescheduling of the Competition in the evening, the light factor also plays a role now. However, there is also a floodlight on the excellently furnished and signposted area. The Slovenian Manca Mikec has posted an interesting picture on Facebook, which shows the heatwave impressively. Armed with a thermometer, she went to the sun for a few minutes. Result: The thermometer is at 49 degrees.
For all, who did not notice the changes in the schedule in yesterday’s meeting, we would like to mention these again. Without guarantee. There is no official training because of the heat. Each starting team can do a short run on the course on their own responsibility. Then, as planned, the vet check and the size measurements are on the agenda as they were scheduled before. At 16.00, the official opening ceremony, without dogs, will take place. The start of the first team runs is planned for 19.00. Given the expected 40 degrees, this forecast seems for us a bit too optimistic. Another will be on Friday, where the first competitions are scheduled to start at 6 o’clock.
A curious scene has already played in the Italian team before the tournament. The Italian Roberto Ferrari with Terrier Bonsai was banned from the team and the event by the Italian national association (ENCI). Even though the Italian and his companion were already there when the decision was announced. The reason was a rather harmless comment in the social media of the Italian. According to the national association ENCI, however, the statement is in breach of netiquette who was signed by the team before the event. Rather personal differences between the team leader and Roberto Ferrari should be the real reason. agilitynow.eu is currently investigating the matter and will later write an article with further information.
The record temperatures continue on the fourth day in a row today. According to the weather forecast, they expect again temperatures around 40 degrees in Papendal, the Netherlands. After yesterdays steps from organizers to prevent the dogs from the heat, some rest has come about the activities of animal rights activists on social media. However, whether these will be satisfied with the taken steps will be revealed today and at 4 pm during the opening ceremony. Everything else according to the protests on social media can be found here.
