AWC 2024 Recap Day 5: Martina Magnoli Klimesova and Malinka are the new Medium World Champions

The first decision has been made. Martina Magnoli Klimesova and Malinka were able to convert their first place in the Jumping into a gold medal. Another impressive performance from the most successful Agility athlete ever. In addition to the first individual medal, the remaining Jumpings of the individual competitions also took place today.

Individual Intermediate Jumping

The so-called monster day in Belgium with four runs was opened by the Intermediate teams. Rene Blank was the judge. If someone wasn’t fully awake by then, they were when the first course plans were passed around the hall. The course, probably the most difficult so far at this World Championship, was tough with many traps. The rate of disqualifications was around 50% at the end. So every second team was eliminated somewhere along the course. And there were a lot of different places where it happened. One who handled this confidently was Iwona Golab and SeeYa. The two started relatively early and kept the lead until the end. The Pole, who was unfortunate in fourth place in the combination ranking last year, ran out a lead of almost half a second. That’s a big cushion these days. Second place is shared by the Dutch Bianca van Gastel with Ffenics and shortly before the end the Belgian Marine Tonglet with Rine joined them. Both ran a time of 36.49 seconds. Iwona’s winning time was 35.98 seconds. This meant that once again this year there was no third-place finisher on the podium. Dalton Meredith with Clippy narrowly missed out on the podium by 0.02 seconds.

Individual Large Jumping

The second decision of the day in the Large tournament was a family affair at the top. Winner Adrian Bajo Alonso and Gif won with style by 0.28 seconds ahead of breeder Max Sprinz. Both teams ran more than 6 meters per second. Max Sprinz, who secured the gold medal for his team yesterday, ran his run confidently again today. Two teams also shared a podium in the second decision of the day. This time the Ukrainian Anna Dyksa with Apple and Tobias Wüst with Ceed. Both ran a time of 32.98. Just 0.21 seconds slower than the two at the top. In general, the gaps were extremely small. There was just 1 second between Adrian Bajo’s 1st place and Perry DeWitt’s 10th place. Tomorrow promises to be one of the most exciting decisions ever at a World Championship. Among the top ten are Naarah Cuddy (Lemon), Veronica Odone (Suki), Nicola Giraudi (Brant), Melanie de Klerk (Sinna), Wendy Willemse (Draig) and Perry DeWitt (Genuuine). The fastest time of the race was recorded by Sophie Rosenberger with Livi. Veronika Kralikova with Naya would also be in first place in terms of time, although both had one mistake.

Individual Small Jumping

In the first preliminary decision in the Small competition, World Championship newcomer Paulina Duda with Huzi took the lead. And that on her first ever participation. According to the interview afterwards, her goal was actually just to complete two clean runs. She has already crossed the finish line once. And she was the fastest at that. And here too, her lead over Martin Reid with Selfie is relatively large at 0.76 seconds. The Briton has also created a very good starting position for himself with his clean run and can certainly benefit from his experience in similar situations in the second round. Third place goes to last year’s vice World Champion Eli Beate Saether with Xera. The two are considered a very stable team. That could perhaps make a difference tomorrow. Renan Campos from Brazil, the reigning European Open winner, was eliminated and cannot take part in the fight for medals tomorrow.

Individual Medium Agility

Martina Magnoli Klimesova and Malinka are the new World Champions in the Individual Medium category. The most successful Agility athlete in history wins her sixth gold medal. Four of them in the individual competition alone. The Italian also ran almost flawlessly in todays Agility run. There was only a brief moment of uncertainty at the end. Otherwise the duo ran like clockwork. And that despite the fact that Malinka is just under 3 years old. From the outside it looks as if the two have been running together for years. After 2 runs they are 1.18 seconds ahead of André Mühlebach and Cinnamon from Switzerland. Switzerland had another chance of a medal with Silvan Zumthurm and Nigel. However, Nigel almost took the jump after the seesaw from the wrong side, which cost a lot of time. He and Nigel ended up in 5th place. At least he gained three places compared to the Jumpingwhere he was 8th. Without this near mistake, however, this duo would have been close to a podium place. Third place went to Frenchwoman Jessica Flouret with Kira. The joy in the French camp was correspondingly great after a mixed World Championship so far. One man’s joy is another man’s disappointment. This applies to Toomas Pent from Estonia. The Estonian and fourth-place finisher was 0.02 seconds short of the podium. Neither Silas Boogk with Beam nor Lenka Fuksova with Hippie managed a flawless run.

But others set the tone in this run. Probably partly due to the fact that a relatively large number of teams had already been eliminated in the Jumping yesterday and therefore had nothing left to lose in the final Agility run anyway. Among them Aneta Obrusnikova with all her three dogs. Or Maria Sori, Anne Lenz and many others. They took a correspondingly high risk on their last course of the 2024 World Championship. And you could literally feel it. In the end, however, the Greek Emilia Tziliou and Remeny were the best at this by a clear margin. They won the run with a lead of more than a second ahead of Aneta Obrusníková and Ollie. Maria Sori and Daim came third. The latter in particular must have been nervous till the end about her place on the podium.
