At least 2 positive corona cases at Norwegian championships

The Norwegian Agility Championships 2021 is overshadowed by two demonstrably positive corona cases. The organizers reported this after information from a participant itself who was tested positive and the other case was reported by the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services over the infection tracing. It cannot be ruled out that far more participants have contracted the virus on site. The participant who reported directly to the organizers has started in the Small category. In order to not violate the man’s personal rights, the name was not published. About the second participant is not more known.

There is now concern within Norway’s Agility community that this coming weekend, where two competitions are taking place in Bø and Fredrikstad, a real wave of infections will kick off. It is therefore encouraged to undergo a PCR test in order to minimize the risk of infection. People who have already been vaccinated twice can also transmit the virus. Participants in the Norwegian championships criticize the handling of the pandemic by certain starters. Distance regulations were partially not or only moderately complied with.

The case in Norway shows that the virus is still ubiquitous and cancellations such as the last International Sheltie Competition in the Netherlands are quite justified. At the Swedish championships a few weeks ago, despite the low corona numbers at the time, spectators on site were not allowed and the starters were separated by size categories on a daily basis in order to have as few people there as possible. The case could also have an impact on future Agility events.
