We continue with part two of our small series about the Agility summer 2022. For this we travel to the east of the Czech Republic to the Moravia region in the border triangle of Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In this area, more precisely in the town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, which has around 16,000 inhabitants, the Moravia Open has been taking place for more than ten years. A little jewel of the Agility scene for different reasons.
This weekend the tournament will take place again in the usual setting after a Corona-related break in 2020 and a slightly reduced version in 2021. And this familiar framework is probably also a reason for the success and popularity of the tournament over the years. No big show and no huge party. Instead, the focus is on sport and a cozy get-together. And all that with a great organization. All small factors that make the tournament what it is today. The “no big” show thing isn’t entirely true either. Because the final, which takes place on Saturday evening, offers pure spectacle. Not with any kind of pyrotechnics or smoke machines, but with a unique atmosphere and Agility at the highest level.
The Austrian judge Bernd Hüppe is also almost part of the inventory. He has also been part of the success story as a judge for many years now. Also at the premiere tournament in 2010 already. This weekend, among other things, he will be in action again. With him on the team are Jiřina Máčková, Kristýna Lukešová, Ana Beltran Bustamante and Neil Elis. And while we’re at the names, it’s time to name the brain behind the Agility jewel. Namely Petr Dostál, who has been working tirelessly in the background since 2010 and made all the tournaments possible in the first place. Of course, with the support of a large number of helpers.
The tournament will take place in the football stadium in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm on modern artificial turf. Even if the stadium is getting a bit old, it also exudes its very own charm. And anyone who has ever started in a stadium knows all about the unique atmosphere. This and, of course, the prize money (approx. 400 euros for the winner in each category, 280 euros for second place and 200 euros for third place) attract many international and national figures to the east of the Czech Republic every year. Believe us, they are also coming if there is no prize money. The tournament starts already on Friday afternoon before it continues on Saturday with the qualifying runs for the final on Saturday evening.
Even if the registration for this year is already over, we definitely recommend registering for next year. You simply have to experience the Moravia Open once.
