The 2022 World Championship will be held in Austria. This after Russia was deprived of the World Championship due to Vladimir Putin’s military invasion of Ukraine, which continues to this day. As a result, the FCI looked for a new host and have now found it in Austria. The venue is Schwechat. A city southeast of Vienna, on the Schwechat River and close to Vienna Airport. The dates of September 22nd to 25th remain unchanged.
For the organizational team around Hans and Katharina Fried and many other faces in the background, it is certainly not an easy task to get an event of this size up and running in less than six months. Especially when you consider that this is usually a multi-year process. Among other things, Hans Fried was one of the co-founders of the European Open and is part of the Agility Committee in the Austrian Association. The last World Championship in Austria took place in Dornbirn in 2009.
According to the official homepage, the Norwegian Jan Egil-Eide, proposed by the FCI, was confirmed or taken over as judge. The second place next to Jan Egil Eide as national judge has not yet been filled and will be announced soon. Also, the two assistant judges. At this point, both the athletes and the fans can thank the Austrian hosts, who are taking on the work despite the short-term organization and ongoing pandemic. After a two-year break, we can finally look forward to a World Championship again.
