Due to the escalating situation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Finnish Agility Association «SAGI» has published a press release in which the 2022 World Championships in Russia are questioned and that participation is refrained from. They are not willing to take part in a competition in which the host country is involved in acts of war. Also, with the focus on the safety of their own team. In another letter, the association contacted the FCI directly and asked for a quick official statement on whether and how the 2022 World Championships should be held. According to the Finnish association, another cancellation would be very regrettable and not a sustainable solution.
Despite the statement, participation is still open by only questioning the tournament in Russia and not completely ruling it out. However, it seems very unlikely that Finland would be willing to send a team to Russia. Other national associations are likely to follow Finland’s example. At the moment it remains to be seen which step the FCI will decide on. If canceled without a replacement, it would be the third World Championship in a row that cannot take place as planned.
