Two days after our article, the English Kennel Club, which organizes the European Open, in consultation with the FCI Agility Commission, confirms that the European Open will not take place this year. Similar to the Junior Open Agility Championships, there will be no alternative date. The organizers looked first for a possible solution in late September or October until the idea was rejected for various reasons.
The situation around the Corona virus epidemic, which is still very difficult to assess, has indirectly brought the event to its knees. The currently prevailing regulations for the organization of events make an event of this size impossible. It is also currently not foreseeable whether and when these can be loosened again. The English Kennel Club also does not want to unnecessarily risk the health of the participants and the spectators.
Another reason for the cancellation is that the qualification tournaments cannot be held in many countries at the moment. Most recently, the Canadian national team has taken itself out of the tournament as a precaution. The European Open 2020 should have taken place for the first time ever in the Agility motherland Great Britain from July 31 to August 3. It is still not clear whether the European Open will take place in England in another year.
