After it was announced today that the Junior Open Agility World Championship in Vantaa, Finland had been canceled due to the current global situation with the grazing Corona Virus (COVID-19), many more tournaments are on the brink. The premiere of the Junior Open Agility World Championship was actually scheduled for the period from July 10th to 12th. With the cancellation, other tournaments are now forced to consider a cancellation. Among many other events during the summer period, the HulaHopp will take place in Sweden from July 7th to 12th, with several hundred participants. Beside Swedens biggest tournament are also the Moravia Open or the Dania Cup scheduled for the same period in July. So far, however, none of the tournaments has been canceled. Nevertheless, we are facing an uncertain future and may even experience an Agility-free summer.
The European Open in English Rutland would then also be affected. Even there are almost another three weeks between the Junior Open Agility World Championship and the European Open. A real forecast can hardly be made at the moment. There are sources that speak of a relatively rapid decline after reaching the peak, others speak of a further spread until late summer. This would be a bitter disappointment for the European Open, which is taking place for the first time on the other side of the English Channel. A disappointment, which is more than understandable and appropriate given the current situation. Of course, the possible cancellation is currently only speculation and there has been no official statement on it so far.
The Canadian national team was the first team to withdraw from the event. Unless they stick to the originally scheduled date at the end of July, they will not send a team to England. According to the official statement, the situation is so dramatic that it cannot be assumed that the situation will improve completely by July. Especially at an event of this size and the large number of participants from all possible countries around the world. At an alternative date, the Canadian association will review the situation.
